Every day people around the world are trying to find new
exciting ways to work out and relax. St George is now home to a relatively new
concept of the electrically driven bicycle. ESpokes has been open for almost
two months now and have specialized in the distribution of electric bicycles.
We had the pleasure of getting to Ride a couple of the models that they sells.
The owner and the manager were super friendly and showed us
two of their most popular models and let us take them out on the seven mile
Virgin River Paved Biking Trail that was accessible from the parking lot. The
models we rode were the Pedego Comfort Cruiser and the Strommer Elite Standard.
These Bikes created a very unique cycling experience. You will have to note
though that you get what you put in to it with these machines. The less you
really on the electric power the more of a workout it will be.
The Comfort Cruiser is exactly what it sounds like. It was
very relaxing and perfect for an easy going day. It is not peddle assisted
meaning the power only engages when you open the throttle. The seat was very
comfortable, and the peddling was much easier on knees such as my own when
combined with the throttle. This bike is perfect for those people who just want
to take a more relaxing ride around a town or have an injury that limits the
use of joints in the ankle, knee and hip.
The Strommer Elite Standard was a bike built for a more
serious rider. It has Throttle control and Peddle assisted power. This made it
faster and it was built more like a mountain or street bike. We pushed the bike
as fast as we could with the peddle assisted power and got the bike up to about
25 miles an hour on a relatively flat area. Passed about 22 miles an hour we
were told that the peddle assist actually disengages making it just your own
work. The Strommer Elite has a good Front suspension that made the ride easier
at higher speeds.
Over all we were very satisfied with how the bikes felt and
if I am ever in the market for that type of bicycle I will definitely come to
St George and talk to ESpokes. Any time you are in St George you should check
out ESpokes and go out for a ride. If you are staying in St George Come to The
Inn at St George. We are bike friendly and centered in the down town historic
district.
